After six years of Cycle Trial competitions across the world, in 2009 in Canberra Australia,
Joe Oakley finally became UCI *Junior Men’s World Champion. *

Three years later Joe is still only twenty years old and will be turning twenty one just before the London 2012 Games.

Based in Nottingham, which is 200kms north of London, Joe Oakley is a self-taught trials bike rider. Joe trains daily and started learning his cycle tricks on the local streets, abandoned rock quarries and industrial buildings around his home.

At age ten, Joe’s father bought him a trials bike and so began Joe’s cycling career. He then started to enter competitions.

Joe has been competing for nine years and has been Regional Champion seven (7) times, British Champion twice (2) in 2005 and again in 2008.

Of the nine years Joe has been competing, for seven of those years Joe has competed internationally. Joe has travelled the globe competing in places including Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Spain, Czech Republic and many more.

Joe Oakley became UCI Junior Men’s World Champion in 2009 in Canberra Australia and in 2010 was placed 9th in the 2010 UCI Elite World Rankings.

Without a major sponsorship, Joe subsidises his air fares and travel costs for international competitions by performing at corporate events and big shows around the UK and Europe for companies such as Land Rover, Nissan, Fox and many more.

In 2011 Joe appeared on Britain’s Got Talent where he performed to LMFAO “Shuffling” and quickly was voted through the auditions round to the semi finals. Joe impressed all the judges including Simon Cowell and won many fans before finishing coming 3rd in his semi final show.

Joe is a regular favourite on TV shows including ITV “Daybreak”, BBC “Live and Deadly” and BBC “Justin’s House”. Joe has also been approached by Guinness World records to challenge some of the existing bike records.

Trials is widely regarded as the most skilful of all cycling disciplines, requiring the utmost amount of balance and precision. Any small error can mean falling from up to 30 feet. Strength and control are also essential, often having to jump up vertical steps of up to 6 feet.
